Description:

This 6 hour course is designed for the employer and upper management who need to be familiar with their specific responsibilities to their employees in regards to trenching and excavation safety under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This course will assist you in developing a thorough understanding of workers’ rights under OSHA, root causes of hazards and remedies, OSHA’s standard for excavations; 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P and Appendices, the roles and responsibilities of the competent person, designating a competent person, and maintaining a safety program. The course will include a combination of instructor led presentations and interactive components and will not certify workers as competent persons. This material was produced under grant number SH-05166-SH9 from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Department of Labor. It does not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the U.S. Department of Labor, nor does mention of trade names, commercial products, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

6 Contact Hours

This course will be delivered online via Zoom. Participants will be emailed a link to participate before the class begins. Participants must attend the entire online module and complete an end-of-course survey in order to receive an electronic certificate of completion.

Virtual Course Policy

Students Agreements for virtual OSHA/Grant classes:


1. Students are required to complete the entire length of class as indicated on the schedule.
2. Students are required to keep their camera on for the duration of the virtual class
3. Students are expected to participate in class to the best of their ability, and from a location with minimal distractions, such as a home or office.
(A vehicle is not considered an acceptable location.)

The instructor/facilitator reserves the right to remove a student from class for non-compliance.
